Heart failure is a condition that results from a reduced ability of the heart to pump blood. Heart failure can be classified into several types:

- **Systolic Heart Failure (HFrEF):** The contractile force of the heart is reduced. The heart cannot pump enough blood to the body. The function of the left ventricle is usually impaired.
- **Diastolic Heart Failure (HFpEF):** The ability of the heart to relax is impaired. The heart cannot fill with enough blood. It is usually seen in older people and in people with a history of hypertension.
- **Congestive Heart Failure:** Characterised by fluid build-up in the body in heart failure. This build-up can occur in the lungs (pulmonary oedema) or in other parts of the body (peripheral oedema).
- **Acute Heart Failure:** Heart failure with a sudden onset. It is usually associated with sudden events such as a heart attack, a serious arrhythmia or infections.
- **Chronic Heart Failure:** Heart failure that develops over a long time and is a continuing condition. Symptoms may worsen over time.

These types may vary according to the cause, course and symptoms of heart failure. Treatment methods differ depending on the type of the disease and the individual's condition.
